FCC Service Trip — Fence Building

For the last couple days we have been building a fence in Garland Ranch Regional Park.  We dug holes, set posts, and put up boards.  All had the chance to wield shovels, tampers, post-hole diggers, impact drivers, hammers, levels and more.  We learned from our mistakes 🙂 and worked together as a team.

We have been many beautiful places and learned a ton about the ocean and all that is around it.  Our visit to Point Lobos was particularly awe-inspiring.

We look forward to seeing our families when we get home tomorrow.  We are grateful to the Blue Theology Mission Station and Christian Church of Pacific Grove for their extravagant welcome this week.

FCC Service Trip Update

We are having a great time here at the Blue Theology Mission Station. Unfortunately we are having connectivity problems, making it difficult to post pictures.  I will post as many as I can.

We have done a couple beach cleanups, planted native plants and pulled weeds, and participated in a scientific study of hermit crabs. Today we hiked at beautiful Point Lobos.

FCC Service Trip — Day 2

We took in history and science in our walks about Pacific Grove and the Monterey Bay aquarium.  Favorite sights include penguins, cuttlefish, jellies, octopodes (see, Deborah, we *are* listening), and abalone.

The elders at Christian Church of Pacific Grove served us a wonderful hamburger/hot dog feast with all the trimmings, at which we had a special visitor, a beautiful cockatoo named Nadia.

FCC Service Trip Day 1

We safely arrived at the Blue Theology Mission Station in Pacific Grove.  We unpacked and settled in for a time, and then some went for a walk while others stayed to make dinner.  Rev. Dan Paul took us on a tour of the area, telling us about geology, ecology, and history.  After dinner there was time for a walk to the beach and then some singing back at the church.

Today — a spiritual walk of the Monterey Bay Aquarium!

What then shall we do?

questionmarkMany of us have been wondering about ways to become more involved in our community.  This blog is a place where we can post opportunities to serve our community in a variety of ways.  If you have ideas, please send them to Pastor Melanie at revmelanieweiner@gmail.com.
